Aerilyn Medina

(SHE/THEY)

MSW, RSW, PSYCH BA (Hons), CYW Adv Dip (Hons)

Welcome, I’m Aerilyn. I am both a Psychotherapist and Child and Youth Care Practitioner. I primarily support children, youth, and young adults, while also welcoming adults when it feels like a good fit. I have particular experience with disabled, neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, and chronically ill communities.

My approach moves beyond assumptions, challenges narrow ideas of care, and holds space for complexity while staying connected to each person’s meaning and context.

Therapy with me is not about fixing people into something more acceptable. It’s about understanding people more fully, honouring their lived experience, and supporting more authentic ways of being, even when things feel messy, uncertain, or hard to name.

My passion is rooted in witnessing, both personally and professionally, what happens when people’s autonomy, needs, and lived experiences are not fully heard or held with the care they deserve. This is why I ensure to create room for what often gets missed: how protection, survival, and adaptation can shape emotions, thoughts, behaviours, patterns, relationships, and ways of coping.

When working with children and youth, I believe support is strongest when caregivers are included with care and intention. I work collaboratively with parents and guardians to build confidence, strengthen connection, navigate difficult moments, and better understand what may be shaping a child or youth’s needs and responses, while continuing to honour their voice, privacy, and autonomy.

Outside of the therapy space, I am a warmly eccentric paradox of a human, and almost certainly caffeine-supported. My toxic trait is convincing myself I can change my whole life at 2 am, fueled by curiosity, stubborn optimism, and one extremely unrealistic burst of determination. I love online gaming, wandering in nature, crocheting, volunteering, advocating, and finding joy in life’s strange, creative little side quests, with just the right amount of unhinged chaos.
